      Research Team on Marine Environmental Microbiology and Algae Biotechnology
      Research

        Introduction

        Foundation of teamwork: The academic research undertaken by team members covers multiple research directions, including algae physiology and biochemistry, molecular ecology of phytoplankton, secondary metabolism and molecular regulation of algae, microalgae gene editing, and synthetic biology, etc. The team has published nearly 200 SCI academic papers in top international journals such as Nature Climate Change, ISME Journal, Plos Biology, JACS, and Cell Reports, obtained more than 20 authorized patents, edited one work in chief, and participated in the compilation of 3 works. In addition, the team directed undergraduate students to win 7 national competitions and more than 20 provincial competitions and undertaken more than 10 key research and development projects under the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Natural Science Foundation of China, and more than 30 provincial projects, with funding support exceeding RMB 10 million.

        Advantages and features of a team: The Marine Environmental Biology and Algae Biotechnology team focuses on marine microalgae as the main research object, and has established a comprehensive marine algae research platform, including a marine algae molecular biology technology system, multi-omic joint analysis platform for genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics, bioinformatics analysis platform, temperature and humidity controlled semi-continuous culture system, and has participated in multiple marine scientific research projects. The team integrated microbiological molecular mechanisms with macroecological scientific laws, revealing the biological laws of marine microalgae in response to environmental changes from multiple levels of genes-physiology-ecology. Simultaneously, utilizing the new CRISPR gene editing technology, the team constructed a synthetic biology cell factory with marine microalgae as the “chassis cell”, enabling the efficient and comprehensive utilization of marine microalgae resources.
