Research team on breeding and culture & enhancement of marine crabs
The team primarily focuses on the new germplasm cultivation for seawater crabs, the technological development of healthy aquaculture, and the construction of aquaculture models. The team members include scientists in the “13th Five-Year Plan” of the modern agricultural shrimp and crab industry technology system of the Ministry of Agriculture, the director of the China Society of Fisheries, the vice chairman of the Zhejiang Zoological Society, and the executive director of Zhejiang Society of Fisheries, and the team excels in seawater crab research in China. Team members have undertaken national, provincial, ministerial, and municipal programs such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Key R&D Program of Zhejiang Province, and they have published over 300 research papers, attained nearly 50 authorized patents, and formulated 2 local standards. Compared to the wild population, the newly cultivated “Keyong 1” portunus trituberculatus, a new variety under national trial test, when harvested, has an average individual weight increase of 11.29% and a survival rate increase of 13.91%, and it is one of the only two new varieties of portunus trituberculatus in China. The team has made breakthroughs in the green crab aquaculture technologies in inland and coastal saline alkali areas, the seawater rice-green crab co-cultivation technologies, and the industrialized breeding and aquaculture technologies concerning seawater crabs, enabling “raising sea crabs along the Yellow River”. The related achievements have also been widely reported by such media as People's Daily, CCTV2, Guangming Daily, China Education Daily, Zhejiang Daily, Henan Daily, etc. Furthermore, for the related achievements, the team has successively won the Second Prize of National Teaching Achievements in Higher Education, the First Prize of Science and Technology Award of Zhejiang Province, Second Prize of Science and Technology Award of Zhejiang Province, First Prize of Agricultural Science and Technology Award of China, Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education, and Innovation Award for Industry-University-Research Cooperation, etc.
