Research Team on Shellfish Nutrition and Immunology

      Research

        Introduction

Foundation of research: The team currently consists of 1 scientist engaged in the technological system in the agricultural industry, one member in the Zhejiang 151 Talent Project, one member as a Young and Middle-aged Subject Leader in Higher Education Institutions, and one member enlisted in Ningbo Leading and Top Talent Training Project. In recent years, the team has undertaken 10 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, one project funded by the Zhejiang Outstanding Youth Fund, and 3 major science and technology projects funded by Ningbo City. The team has also participated in 4 national and provincial major research and development plans and projects, published over 100 papers in journals such as Water Research, Reviews in Aquaculture, Journal of Nutrition, Molecular Ecology Resource, BBA Mol Cell Bio Lipid, etc., and obtained over 10 authorized patents, with current research funding approximately totaling RMB 5 million.

        Overview of research foundation:

Clarified the feeding, nutritional requirements, and metabolic rules of mudflat shellfish based on the feed requirements of mudflat shellfish in the breeding stage; screened and created a batch of bait microalgae, which have been widely applied in the coastal areas of China; expanded the cultivation conditions and environmental tolerance of existing bait microalgae through biotechnology; developed shellfish microcapsule feed as an alternative to microalgae.

Established the serial cultivation mode integrating shrimp and shellfish, and defined the carbon sink function under this mode, centered on the cultivation mode of shellfish pond in the mudflat.

Centered on the mollusk diseases and immunity, discovered the main Vibrio causing juvenile shell death, analyzed the pathogenic mechanism of vibrio and the immunological basis of shell resistance to vibrio disease and developed molecular breeding markers for shells’ disease resistance.

        Advantages and Features:

        1. Bivalvular nutrition and feed

            2. Prevention and control of bivalvular diseases based on nutritional immunity
