Research Team on Echinoderm Immunology and Disease Prevention & Control
      Research

        Introduction

Foundation of team research: Centered on the two major research directions of aquatic animal immunology and etiology, the team focuses on the key scientific issue of the pathogenesis of stichopus japonicus rot skin syndrome, and has conducted multiple innovative studies from three levels: pathogenic mechanism, host immune response regulation, and pathogen host interaction. The team has undertaken 17 national projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Key R&D Programs, more than 30 provincial-level projects such as the Zhejiang Natural Science Foundation, and has published over 200 SCI papers in authoritative journals such as PLoS Pathgenes and Journal of Immunology, obtained 10 authorized patents, and edited work. In addition, the team has guided graduate students to win 5 excellent dissertations in Zhejiang Province (including 2 doctoral students), 20 national scholarships, and 2 gold prizes in the “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.

Advantages and Features: The team has established key signaling pathways and regulatory pathways for Toll-like receptors with a complete anti-bacterial infection in stichopus japonicus, and discovered constituent members that are different from higher organisms and regulatory patterns; clarified the multi-pathway regulatory patterns for low-level biological cytokine production, signal transduction pathways, cell apoptosis and other pathways in pathogen infection and disease occurrence; constructed an early warning and monitoring system for skin ulcer syndrome of stichopus japonicus with miRNA expression level as the core; developed the research on the metabolic immunology in stichopus japonicus, clarified the pathways of lipid metabolism and arginine to participate in immune response, and established stichopus japonicus's regulatory axis “circRNA miRNA immune molecule - metabolism re-regulation”. Furthermore, the team has discovered that the pathogenic vibrio splendidus can secrete two types of signaling molecules, high serine lactones, and indoles, revealing the molecular mechanism by which the two types of signaling molecules differentially regulate the pathogenicity of cells and, for the first time, applied bioactive substances, such as quorum sensing inhibitors coumarins, to the ecological prevention and control of stichopus japonicus diseases.
